Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year and Second Grade! We look forward to working with you as your child learns and grows.
Dear Second Grade Families,
Hello, my name is James McGee and I am beginning my second year teaching at Holy Spirit School. I grew up in Alameda where my two brothers and I attended St. Philip Neri School. After high school, I graduated from Chabot College’s firefighter academy prior to my calling to be a teacher. I later earned my bachelors degree and teaching credential from California State University East Bay. My teaching career began in Newark at the elementary school level where I taught students in grades K through 6th.
I met my wonderful wife, Kristina, in 1991 and we were married two years later. During this time I was teaching elementary school, coaching at the high school, and teaching adult school in the evenings. Before I knew it, it was 2005 and I made a big change to serve as a middle school administrator. After eight years in administration, I decided to return to the teaching ranks since I missed being in the classroom working with kids. At that point, I was hired to teach 6th grade English on the peninsula where I worked for five years.
I have served as a lector at Corpus Christi Parish for almost ten years, and I am also a proud member and officer of the Italian Catholic Federation. In addition, I love to read and write and I have published five books on Amazon with two others in the works. I have been truly blessed during my life and teaching career.
I am looking forward to working with you this year as we meet the needs of your child!
Blessings, Mr. McGee and Mrs. Downing
